The Windows error "I/O Device Error" means there is an error in the computer's ability to read data when you try to install a program or to copy data from your CD or DVD drive.
This issue is likely to occur when Windows tries to use a transfer mode that your CD drive cannot use or does not recognize. To resolve this issue, you will need to change the transfer mode in your IDE channel properties.
Steps To Change IDE Properties
Click the Start button
Right click My Computer
Select Manage from the resulting menu
In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager
In the right pane, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Identify your CD/DVD drive in the expanded menu and right click the appropriate drive
Select Properties
In the Properties windows, click the Advanced Settings tab
In the Transfer Mode box that represents your CD/DVD drive (typically Device 1); open the dropdown menu and select PIO Only
Click ok and exit all windows
If this does not resolve your issue, then you will need to go back using the above procedure and change the Device 1 in step #9 back to "DMA if available". Then, change Device 0 to "PIO Only" in the Transfer Mode box.
For reference, the Device 0 is the Primary IDE Channel and the Device 1 is the secondary IDE Channel.
After you change your settings, make sure you restart your system so that the computer recognizes the changes you have made. After you reboot, check the settings to make sure they are in effect. If they are, your device should now work properly.
This issue does not occur in Firefox 2 or below. Starting in Firefox 3, downloads of executable files (e.g., .exe or .msi) may fail and the Firefox Downloads window may contain this message, under the filename: This download has been blocked by your Security Zone Policy -
This issue occurs because Firefox now honors your Windows security settings for downloading applications and other potentially unsafe files from the Internet.
You can resolve this issue as follows:
Bypass Windows Security Policy check
Starting in Firefox 3.0.6 you can use about:config to manually add the new Boolean preference, browser.download.manager.skipWinSecurityPolicyChecks and set it to true. This will bypass the Security Zone Policy check.
This happens if the operating system is not installed properly or “winmgmt.exe, winmgmtr.dll & wmi.mfl” is missing or these files are damaged due to number of reasons.
Resolution
• Copy the winmgmt.exe, winmgmtr.dll & wmi.mfl from any PC with same operating system (with its service pack) and paste it in “C:\Windows\System32\Wbem”
• Now type the following command in CMD.
o Winmgmt/kill (To kill any windows management based application that is running)
o Winmgmt/clearadap (To clear the windows management adapter settings)
o Winmgmt/unregserver (To un-register the windows management components)
o Winmgmt/regserver (To register the windows management components)
• Now, open services.msc and start the service that is added.
